This has been a recurring problem since I purchased my rig in 1999. I have a 97 Rialta, had a tune up 2001 at VW dealership in Idaho Falls, and they couldn't get the light to stay off, plus I think they broke the housing for the fan. Then I went to a mechanic in Butte, Mt. He fixed the housing, the warranty Company was bankrupt, so I had to pay. When I got back to CA, contacted the dealer where I purchased the rig, got the name of the replacement Warranty Co, and finally was reimbursed. Light is still on, and the Sacramento VW dealer only fixes one rig a month, so have an appointment on June 26 to check the light. Haven't tried the golf tee solution but I might.
