I have a 1997 Rialta with an automatic transmission. It presently has about 77,000 miles. About 10,000 miles ago, I had started on a trip to Illinois and was driving @ about 65 mph on the PA turnpike when the trans downshifted at least 1 gear, maybe 2. It would shift back to high but then shift back down. This had continued about 50 miles when I stopped for fuel and truned off the ignition. After restarting the problem stopped. I drove to Illinios and returned back to Delaware with no further problem (about 2000 to 2500 miles). The next trip I travelled about 2000 miles with no problem and then it did the same thing twice within about 200 miles. Each time I pulled over, turned off the ignition, waited a few minutes, restarted and the problem stopped. After the second time, I continued on the trip about another 2000 to 3000 miles with no problem. When I returned home I took it to a VW dealer who plugged into the computer and got a code saying "conv bridge fault". I believe it is an electical (computer) problem. Any thoughts or experience?
