Follow-Up:
I have a 2002 Rialta with the VR6 Dual Overhead Cam, 201 HP, VW engine. So far no problems with the VW engine. The VW runs great and has plenty of power in the Rocky Mountains, BUT if I had my choice between an American engine or the VW engine I would take the American because of the service and parts availability.
