Follow-Up:
Hi Bob, it seem that it is the same problem that my brother had . We changed the motor support, the lower one just back of the transmission It is a bracket with a big rubber inside to prevent the vibration and with the time, this rubber is damaged. Check with a VW dealer.(+/- $200.oo for the part only) He changed the part himself and he need about 5 hres. May be this could happen when the vehicule is park for a long period, or it could be somethingelse. Good luck.
