My wife and I are average size people and like to go from the front seats to the rear without going outside and cannot understand why VW continues to put the gear shift in the floor obstructing the already too narrow isle.I have looked at the mechanism and it is nothing but a push-pull cable and could easily be located on the column or dash with a longer cable. Add a aftermarket drink holder in the center dash,and it becomes easier to get out and go around. Is this style or stupid. Jeff
