Follow-Up:

Hi: You might think of taking it to a truck repair garage instead of the VW dealer. Just because the dealer is SUPPOSED to know about repairing/servicing your vehicle does not necessarily mean he does. I tend to trust mechanics who work on vehicles without labcoats anyway. If you need to get an oilchange - take it to a garage not the dealer, he has no magic here and you shouldn't have to pay for his lack of it. The two times I've been to the dealer (one to get an oilchange, two to replace the gear oil in the drive) I was overcharged - $75 an hour in both instances chaging me an hour and half labor plus parts. (If you're mechanically inclined and not afraid of getting your hands dirty, buy a pair of ramps, wheel chocks, and a set of metric sockets. An oilchange will take you an hour the first time, less than 20 minutes there onward. ) I've heard some Jiffy-Lubes don't mind working on the Rialtas as long as the engine cover underneath is off (takes a couple minutes - 4 bolts) or modified (to allow access to the oil filter). I'm pretty skeptical of dealer expertise particularly when they quote 3 and a half hours using their lift to replace the front shocks - it took me an hour and a half with no lift (but with ramps) and no special tools. For serious work where electronic diagnostics via the CPU in the Rialta, you do need to go to the dealer and pray he'll put a mechanic on your RV who knows what it's about. But that's work none of us ever want to hear about even after the 30K-40K tune-up. I've learned a lot about the Rialta since I bought it last year (used 98) and a lot as well about dealer "productiivity".
