The VW 800 number is 800-822-8987. They can give you a list of VW dealers who have the lift necessary to do the work. There aren't too many (which the salespeople do not tell you because they often don't know this themselves!) I recently purchased a 2000 Rialta leftover and the engine light went on 5 miles from the dealer. I turned around and left it for them to have repaired, which they did (an emissions control problem) and then they delivered it to me. These stories do worry me. VW is sympathetic on the phone but not too helpful other than telling you the few places you can go. Good luck.
